Blog Every Day In May - How To Create A Monochromatic Layout

This year I've enjoyed creating quite a few monochromatic layouts, especially since Susie reorganized the front wall of Scrappin' Goodtime into a Wall of Color! These layouts come together quickly and are the perfect way to highlight photos. Today I'm sharing the simple 8-step formula I use for putting together a monochromatic layout.

Step 1 - Choose your photo(s).

Step 2 - Choose your color.

Step 3 - Grab two pieces of cardstock and two pieces of patterned paper in chosen color.

Step 4 - Choose several embellishments and a set of letter stickers in chosen color. (For my brown layout [above], I chose glitter tape, buttons, doilies, and two sets of letter stickers!)

Step 5 - Mat photos on cardstock.

Step 6 - Use one sheet of cardstock as background.

Step 7 - Layer patterned papers and photos on background.

Step 8 - Add embellishments, title, and journaling. (For my blue layout [below], I chose glitter tape, bling, and a set of letter stickers. I also used several dimensional travel stickers that matched my colors and theme.)

There are, of course, many ways of creating these layouts. For example, it's not necessary to use a cardstock background each time or to mat the photos. However, this simple formula works for me, and I always like the results.

I always enjoy reading about other people's processes and this is no exception. Always good to have a formula which works :).

That's really relaxing scrapbooking, then, when you work to a formula you know gives you great results. I like that

I love these monochromatic layouts, and the way the flowers overlap the label on the second one is fantastic!

Clever to have a tried and tested formula that you know you love! They're both great layouts!

Monochromatic layouts are always so sharp. It's always interesting to see someone else's process.
