This post is the final in a series of six daily posts where I'm sharing my 50 Things To Do Before I'm 50 list. I put this list together as I neared my 45th birthday last month, choosing goals and things to do in the next five years before my 50th birthday. Many of the items on the list are things I've never done and places I've never been, however the list also includes some items that I want to do again. Some are small, simple inexpensive things to do, while others require a much larger amount of time and/or financial investment. The actual list is in a rather random fashion, listed as items came to me, but for this blog series I'll be grouping similar items together.
Today I'm sharing the remaining 15 items on my 50 Things To Do Before I'm 50 list. Along with all the things I've wanted to do for years, the places I plan to go, the things I want to learn, and my stretch goals, I have several other rather random things on my list. Several of the items involve a healthy lifestyle.
*Lose down to a healthy weight (140-145 pounds) & maintain (1 year+) - I've been steadily working on this goal since the beginning of the year. I've lost almost 20 pounds, with another 12 or so to go. Obviously I want to maintain a healthy weight more than a year; that figure is there so that I can measure my accomplishment and check this item off the list once it's been a year after I reach a healthy weight.
*One minute plank - I've been working out with a personal trainer this year, and I'm building my strength along with losing weight. So far, I can hold a plank for about 30 seconds (on the good days!), but I'm determined to hold it for a full minute!
*Grow my own vegetables - Robbie and I have both had vegetable gardens in the past, and even had a small raised garden a few years in Allen. It's something I'd like to do again.
*Boot camp class - This fall I'll be trying out some of the various exercise classes at our local natatorium and recreation center. At some point, I'd like to try a week-long boot camp class.
It will probably come as no surprise to my regular readers that I have a couple of items on my list that involve reading.
*Read all the Pulitzer prize winners in Fiction (1948-2018) - This is a goal I set at the beginning of this year, and I've read 9 of the 60 winners on the current list (with a new one added most years).
*Re-read all my children's/young adult books - I have two shelves with my collection of children's and young adults books, and over the next few years I'd like to re-read all of these. I'm planning to make a list of the books to use as a checklist.
When Robbie read this next item on my list, he commented that it seemed out of place since most of the items are more FUN. (Of course, I disagreed and said that earning a doctorate and holding a one minute plank might not be all that FUN at times!) However, I left revise my will on the list because it's something that I want to do and something that many people don't bother to think about until it's too late! [I have personally had to settle a couple of estates where there was no will at all!]
There are also a few items on my list that are specifically designed
to help me in my spiritual growth and my daily walk with the Lord.
*Keep a daily/gratitude journal for one year
*Fast for 3 days again
*Read through the Bible again
Several of the items are on my list are just items for FUN! Some of these are things I've done in the past but want to be sure to do again.
*Play all the games in our collection
*Dye Easter eggs again
*Complete 10 scrapbook projects - I'll be compiling a list of projects in the next few weeks.
*Watch all the movies in our collection - What I really mean is all the movies that I will enjoy - skipping over the zombie shows that Robbie has added to the collection!
*Carve a pumpkin
So, there you have it - all 50 items on my 50 Things To Do Before I'm 50 list. I'm so excited to begin working toward these goals, and (of course) I'll share my progress here on the blog!
I want to send out a HUGE thank you to everyone who's left such thoughtful comments on my 50 Things posts! I am truly enjoying reading about the things that you've accomplished and places you've been and the things you might join me in trying to do. It's so FUN to know that when I plan our trip to Niagara Falls, I might also be able to link up with Karen and Lynn. I don't feel bad at all for not remembering much from my 8th grade Spanish class now that I know Beverly had 7 years of French but remembers very little. I think having someone to talk to regularly in the language would help, so I guess Susanne (who wants to learn French) and Sandra (who wants to learn Italian) won't be much help to me. Alexa wants to learn more about her camera, too, and Becky thinks cooking lessons and dance lessons would be FUN! Debbie admits she also needs swimming lessons. Sian confirmed that it is possible to go glamping and have running water. Not only does Cheri share many of my goals, but she will be able to hook me up with her daughter who can help with applying for a tour of the White House. And I'm excited that Ellyn has started working on her own list of things to do! I truly appreciate everyone who leaves a comment.
Do any of the goals I mentioned today interest you? What additional things do you want to accomplish in the next few years?
