When Mockingbirds Sing - book review

I've just finished reading Billy Coffey's When Mockingbirds Sing and have a feeling of let down that the book did not reach a satisfying conclusion. I'm also not too sure I truly understood some of the symbolism of this Christian fiction book and am disappointed that some of the things alluded to in the story were never explained (what did the townspeople find in that hole up in Happy Holler awhile back?).

Initially the story line drew me in, however as the book continued through many twists and turns and none of the "mysteries" were truly revealed or explained, I was just ready to get to the end and understand what point the author was trying to make. The writing is good and the characters are well-developed, yet I would not recommend this book unless you enjoy mysteries that don't get truly solved. It's my personal opinion that Christian fiction should be uplifting and point us to Christ (regardless of how desperate or difficult the storyline may be), but this story leaves much doubt as to whether or not God even truly had an effect in this town!

(I downloaded this book free from Booksneeze in exchange for an honest review.)
