Storytelling Sunday - Not The Retirement Home After All

Today's story is brought to you as part of Sian's monthly Storytelling Sunday, where bloggers around the world share a story in words or photos. My layout showcases photos of the house my parents lived in for ten years before Daddy retired and they moved to a  new home, and my story tells why this wasn't their retirement home after all.

Journaling reads: When Mama & Daddy bought the house in Groves I'm sure they thought it would be the last one, but after evacuating for so many hurricanes in the past several years they decided to  move farther north, despite the fact that Daddy had finally built his dream shop in the "back forty." This was a good home for them over the past 10 years and fortunately only sustained minimal damage during Hurricane Rita in 2005 and Hurricane Ike in 2008.

We've been watching the news here and your mention of hurricanes really means something since we have seen the terrible destruction. We all hold our homes dear - I can't imagine what it would be like for it to be taken from me in such a way. Great story.

I can understand wanting to move - I'm glad they were able to and hope your Dad was able to rebuild his dream workshop :)

I am glad that you documented the inside of the home too. Sometimes when I see a photo that has part of the home in the background it reminds me of other times. I often find photos of places and things help us to relive memories once forgotten. I hope that they are happy in their new home. Part of my family live in Lake City FL, thankfully they don't get hit very often by the full ferocity of hurricanes, but it would still be too close for me :-)

Since I've never lived in an area threatened by hurricanes, I can't imagine that worry. Plus, just the amount of work associated with a major storm would be enough to make me move too!

Sometimes difficult decisions have to be made and your head has to speak to your heart. Hope they are just as happy in their new home.

How scary to have to live through hurricanes - just seeing all the destruction on television is heartbreaking. I am glad though that they managed to find another retirement home out the way of hurricanes.

I feel the same, It might not be terribly exciting where I live but at least we don't have these extremes of weather. Loving your LO.

It must be a relief to everyone that they have moved out of hurricane alley.Hopefully he found a way to have at least a small workshop where they settled.
