Fun Idea For Old Book Pages

Last month as we were strolling around the booths at McKinney Trade Days, I saw a fun idea for using old book pages.

Franziska of Flavor Designs used old book pages and music sheets to cover the tops of tables and other pieces of furniture, giving them a wonderful new look. Her booth was filled with lots of other products as well - old pallets turned into shelves, refurbished furniture, candle holders, etc. She calls herself a curb-shopper and dumpster-diver who restores abandoned items to make the world a beautiful place. Check out her website for more examples of her work.

I have several old books in my scrapbooking stash and am now looking for other ways to use them. Do you have old books in your stash? What projects have you used them for lately?

The tables look nice. I like that idea. I have an old dictionary that I love to ripe pages out of for projects - usually cards or mini books.

Since I got my Kindle Fire, I have very few books left. However, I do have an ancient dictionary from when we were children. Might just work for something like that. Thanks for the idea.

Hi Melissa,

thank you for posting my tables!! That's so awesome :) Now I will check out your blog, so glad you left a comment.
I just did a school chair and added some book papers to the attached table. Mod podge works great but I also use polyurethane to seal it. It yellows it even a little more and seals it well.

Thanks again,

Franziska

Great ideas! Such a great way to recycle and re-use! I really love that tray. I do not have any really old books right now, but this makes me want to run to the flea market and look for some. :)

I always think I'm going to use mine but can never bear too so they stay on the bookshelf! Though I do like the look and feel of them gesso'd for journalling.

I cherish the old ones I have so would never use them but I have bought some specifically to use in altered art. I can see doing the tray or a side table for a book lover.

I've only once been able to alter a book - but I had to read it first to check no one would really want to read it.... Don't tend to use book pages in my art, have used copies of or printed papers made to look like book pages...

Perhaps I could use magazine pages - I can recycle magazines ;)
